Regularization of Status For Illegal Tourism Enterprises – Registration And Licensing Of Tourism Enterprises And Payment Of 1% Tourism Levy

GTA takes steps to help tourism business operators regularise their operations

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) wishes to inform all tourism enterprises operating without a valid registration and license from the Authority to regularize their operations by 31st May, 2022.
 
The Authority will embark on a nationwide enforcement exercise to clamp down on all illegal tourism enterprises in June, 2022.
 
The Ghana Tourism Authority is mandated by law under the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817) to register and licence all tourism enterprises. (i.e. Hotels, Spas, Guest Houses, Serviced Apartments, Hostels, Home Lodges, Restaurants, Fast Food Joints, Traditional Catering Establishments (Chop Bars), Drinking Bars, Travel Agencies, Movie Houses, Event Centres, Entertainment Centres, Banquet Halls, Conference Facilities, Pubs, Night Clubs, Tour Companies, Car Rentals, etc).
 
All Tourism Enterprises including apartments, operating “AirBnB” without a valid license from the Authority, contravene section 25(2) of the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817) and will have their establishments closed down and sanctioned.
 
All licensed Tourism Enterprises must also pay outstanding levies before the commencement of the enforcement exercise.
