GTA COMMENCES 2024 EMANCIPATION DAY CELEBRATION IN CENTRAL REGION

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has commenced the 2024 Emancipation Day celebration in the Central Region. The celebration features a series of events and activities honoring the emancipation of enslaved Africans and their descendants.

The celebration began in Assin Praso with the re-enactment of the crossing of River Pra by enslaved Africans and their slave masters.This emotional ceremony was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Mass Grave yard, where representatives of Traditional rulers, the Global African family, Youth of Africa, and the government and people of Ghana laid wreaths to pay gloring tribute to those who lost their lives during the transatlantic slave trade.

A durbar of Chiefs and the People of Assin Praso was held at the Heritage Village, featuring cultural performances and a celebration of the resilience and unity of the African people.

The Emancipation Day Celebration is an annual event that honors the struggles and triumphs of enslaved Africans and their descendants, promoting unity, resilience, and cultural heritage. This year’s celebration is themed Unity and Resilience: Building Stronger Communities for a Brighter Future.
