On June 24, 2025, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) hosted a high-level meeting with the World Bowls Federation and the National Sports Authority to discuss the integration of bowls into Ghana’s sports tourism strategy. The meeting, held in the GTA Boardroom, brought together international delegates from New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland and the UK, alongside local sports and tourism officials.
The purpose was to officially introduce the Ghana Bowls programme and explore how the sport can attract tourists, especially older demographics. Mr. Brett O’Reilly, President of the World Bowls Federation, highlighted the global appeal of bowls and its potential to position Ghana as a host for international events. CEO of GTA Maame Efua Houadjeto welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting Ghana’s image abroad.
Key outcomes included plans for a farewell dinner for the delegation, discussions on hosting a World Bowls Series event in Ghana and a commitment to deeper collaboration post-launch. The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation and optimism for the future of sports tourism in Ghana.
