The Panafest and Emancipation team from the Ghana Tourism Authority recently embarked on a significant visit to Salaga, located in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region. This historic town holds deep relevance in Ghana’s transatlantic slave trade narrative and is widely regarded as one of the key points where the painful journey toward emancipation began.
The visit formed part of the lead-up activities for this year’s Panafest and Emancipation celebrations, aimed at honoring the resilience of the African spirit and reconnecting with the roots of our collective heritage. The delegation engaged with local authorities, visited key heritage sites, and paid homage to the memories of those who passed through Salaga during one of the darkest chapters in history.
Below are some powerful moments captured during the visit, scenes that reflect reverence, remembrance, and a renewed commitment to preserving our history for future generations.
