Ghana celebrate African culture and independence with two annual events: the Pan African Historical Theater Festival (PANAFEST) and Emancipation Day. These events celebrate the perseverance of the African diaspora while also attempting to bring people of African heritage together. PANAFEST, which was created in 1992, promotes Pan Africanism and cultural unity. Emancipation Day, observed annually in August, commemorates the tribulations of enslaved Africans and the ongoing battle against oppression. As PANAFEST and Emancipation 2025 approaches, the program intends to emphasize the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, as well as the historical wrongs suffered by Africans. Both PANAFEST and Emancipation 2025 share the theme of comprehending the past to impact current and future behaviors, encouraging dialogues about identity, culture, and resistance.
